I have said all along that I have a great deal of respect for Gate City athletics. I have not spewed the holdback and TN biz. Our distric was challenged to raise the bar when GC RE-ENTERED (folks forget when they insult GC calling them outsiders that the were here before). Our distric has been weak as water for years. This is sad but true (all you have to do is remember the 90's to really see how weak it has become). Gate City has had a solid cycle of athletes, and has had success in their stay here, but the sad reality is at least in football, beating Kellys Coeburns and Pounds has been no big feat. I have finally gotten tired of the condescending attitude of some GC fans on here (not to mention the whining about the LPD/being glad to be leaving)

As far as leaving and being glad: See ya-good luck in the CMD. Just as glad as you are to leave, many are glad to see you go [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img]

Big fish in a little pond for the most part. When GC has played the bigger fish upstate, there has been success, but not at the league level, once again proof positive that the LPD (and the region) has been down.

Football: 1 state title at A level? Compare that to PV (who has had your number) and Appy (know you were AA for awhile, but have been A for many years in both LPD stints). Hell, even lowly JJK has 1 state title in football

Basketball-Boys- no luck at all (close though)
Basketball- Girls One- I hear ya-we got one too
Baseball-We've had some luck with 8. I don't even know if GC has one in baseball or not
Tennis-know GC has what a couple-great run lately. We had a run ourselves winning 8 of those badboys
Golf? Dunno. I know we have one

What I am trying to say is that though successful, the attitude that we hear on here, the paranoia that we get (everybody is after us-jealousy) is unwarranted. Don't flatter yourselves. The only thing that is remembered is state gold, and beating up on the LPD hasn't loaded the state trophy case at GCHS. Yes, your [censored] does indeed stink.

Like I said, I respect the program, but the crowd- if you bought them for what they were worth and sold them for what they thought they were worth would put you on the cover of Forbes. i have respect for GC Athletics they have raised the bar for teams in the LPD but really does it matter who is POY in 5 years can you actually sit there and tell me who the POY was unless you are that person come on guys lets just quit complaining about adkins being POY and Wilson being COY it happens so get over it....like i said i have respect for GC and always will

Yeah, I think it was the classy Kelly fans who pretty much surrounded our kids as they left the field at halftime in 01 or 02 at Kelly as they left the field at halftime shouting all kinds of things to them, grownups for the most part. And paranoid? You won't show me many Districts where a kid on a 4 win team gets POY will you? Or a kid who sets a state record and then comes back and breaks it doesn't get POY? I agree that we won't remember who wins it, but the kids who got passed over will.

And yes, I guess we do look forward to the CMD, and I think the other teams who will join us in the CMD look forward to being in it with us, unlike most of the LPD who didn't want us to start with. So after the Spring sports we will hope to see you in the Region if any of us are fortunate enough to make it.

I for one enjoyed our time in the LPD - met some really nice folks along the way and met some real horses too. Just like GC everyone has them - dont say it isnt so. But I think the majority at ALL schools have pretty good people - its just unfortunate that some ruin it for all.

And it was the classy GC fans who heckled the JJK basketball team just a few days after Steven Thompson died, laughing at them/saying horrible things to them because they were overcome with emotion after the game (not like they didn't know that our kids were hurting with the black bands and pregame announcement). We all have bad fans, but alot from GC on this board talk about bitching and whining from the LPD, yet every other post from them is bitching and whining. Bitching about wanting to leave, wishing that they weren't here. Whining about everybody being out to get them..etc
A bit hypocritical it seems to me. As for POY and COY, [censored] happens. Many times I have seen one of my boys from JJK get the shaft. That's life. Nobody told us that it was going to be fair. I agree 100%. I have met some fine folks from GC. I have made some good friends from this board (met Toby here-for all the aggravation this board can be at times, that alone makes it worthwile). I guess I just got tired of all of the griping about being here. You get to the point where you say "If you don't want to be here, don't let the door hit you in the [censored] on the way out".
